Solar Powered Grasshopper Kit: This grasshopper is a little crazy. When the sun shines on its solar-panelled back it jumps around all over the place. A great demonstration of a solar panel converting clean light energy from the sun into electricity. Have your students in fits of laughter as they learn about environmentally friendly sources of electricity.
What you get?
Solar-powered grasshopper toy in a blister pack (grasshopper is approximately 4 cm from head to tail).
How does it work?
No batteries are required, the sunlight does all the work. When the grasshopper is in direct sunlight, the solar panel on its back converts the light energy into electrical energy. The generated electrical energy, in turn, powers the micro-vibration motor causing this crazy critter to jump about. A strong artificial light source, like a spotlight, can be used as an alternative to the sun. A unique and memorable way to learn about solar panels.
Teach
How solar cells convert the suns light energy into electrical energy.
Using solar energy as a clean and environmentally friendly alternative from burning fossil fuels for electricity.
Global warming and the greenhouse effect.
A great educational tool for kids and adults, this little grasshopper jumps around in the sun. How crazy it gets depends on how bright the sun is. The tiny solar panel looks like a mini version of the ones you may have on your roof. It directly powers an eccentrically weighted motor for loads of wobbly action.
The Solar Kit Grasshopper is the ideal starter product for anyone learning about solar energy. After constructing the grasshopper with the seven pieces included in the kit, place it in the sun (or under a bright light) to charge the solar panels. The solar panels then convert the energy from the sun into electricity which powers the micro-vibration motor, causing the grasshopper to wiggle, dance and move around. This kit can be used as an educational activity to demonstrate the conversion of energy, as a beginner construction kit or just as a fun, interactive toy for everyone to enjoy.
