Metal Detector Lab
Metal Detector Lab : Small world play support’s children’s personal, social and emotional development. Children can play in a small world context that supports them to make connections with other people, both real and imagined, as well as the world in which they are a part of. Children can experiment in imaginary situations and explore their own emotions; how they feel about the situations, people and living creatures in the world around them. Small worlds can be designed specifically to promote and support children’s active exploration of their interests. Examples of these could be fairies, dinosaurs, or animals. Through interest based learning, children are more likely to be engaged in play for extended periods of time.
Discover how the world of metal detecting has come across all sorts of important historical discoveries from Viking hauls to buried stashes of gold coins dating back 1000 years. Could you be next?
Learn about mechanics and assemble a working device that sends alarms at the detection of unseen metal artifacts above or beneath the surface. Your friends will be amazed. Hunt for buried treasure on the beach or your back yard by driving the robot back and forth with the remote control.
The operation of metal detectors is based upon the principles of electromagnetic induction. Metal detectors contain one or more inductor coils that are used to interact with metallic elements on the ground. The single-coil detector illustrated below is a simplified version of one used in a real metal detector.
This a fun, active way of learning about scientific properties of objects – for example, they learned that not all things that look like metal are in fact made of metal. This prompted them to set up an experiment where they confirmed this, using the metal detector and a fun magnet. This lightweight metal detector is a great way for young explorers to discover common metal objects. Featuring a sensitivity and volume control, the detector emits a beeping sound when close to metal, and the flashing indicator lights speed up and change color.
The electronic kit for kids will alert you when you are near coins and other precious metals. Easy-to-build-needs only a Phillips head screwdriver.
For indoor and outdoor use.
