Hang Galileo Thermometer 48cm
Ditch boring thermometers and experience science in motion with the Hang Galileo Thermometer (48cm)! This elegant glass instrument uses floating, color-filled bulbs to display temperature changes with precision and style. A perfect blend of physics and d?cor, it?s a fascinating conversation piece for any home or office. Watch science come to life every day!
Hang Galileo Thermometer 48cm: Modern-day thermometers are boring! See the science behind the daily temperatures you take for granted. Based on the principle of buoyancy and density, discovered by “the father of modern physics” Galileo Galilei, this thermometer is a great scientific tool for those with inquisitive minds. The glass tube is filled with paraffin liquid and baubles with inscribed temperatures.
As the temperature of the liquid rises or falls, so too does the density causing the baubles to move. As the temperature of the paraffin falls and becomes denser, the baubles rise. Each bauble is carefully weighted so that they will swap from floating to sinking at a particular temperature, giving you a temperature reading. Great for geeks!
This thermometer allows you to see the temperature by watching the balls sink and float in a beautifully sealed glass cylinder, as their densities are such that they rise or fall as the temperature changes. You can hang this one up as a beautiful display piece.
Are you a bit of a science geek? The Galileo Thermometer (named after the famous Italian physicist Galileo Galilee) is a thermometer made of a sealed glass cylinder containing a clear liquid and a series of sealed glass bulbs with different densities, that rise or fall as the temperature changes.
As the liquid in the cylinder changes temperature, its density changes and the bulbs are free to move – either by rising or falling. If the bulbs differ in density by a very small amount and are ordered such that the least dense is at the top and densest at the bottom, they can form a temperature scale.
