Most loved and best educational toy which every kid loves to play with because of which it’s one of the bestsellers on our website and also an ideal gift for kids.
Seeing one of these planes soar gracefully overhead redefines your perception of the three-dimensional space above. It even re-defines us: we are creatures living at the bottom of an ocean of air. All my 6th-grade students– over 250 of them every year when I was teaching– made this project from scratch. Thin strips of balsa wood were challenging to work with, but when the kids put their finished creations to flight there are no words to describe the joy.
I have experimented with a crude kind of “washout”–having less wing tilt at the wing-tips than at the root–by gluing paper that is curved down near the middle of the wing. Washout can help prevent a problem called “tip stall” which causes the plane to spiral dive.
The wingspan of the finished product is 45cm, height 7cm and length is approx 40cm, this detailed model Bi-plane can fly for up to a minute just from the power of a rubber band. No glue or tools are required in its assembly. Simply slot together, wind the propeller which in turn powers up the rubber band and then launch into the sky.
